Acting like it's out of timing backfires won't stay running seems to fight a compression stroke.

Hi,

Have you checked for diagnostic trouble codes? This vehicle has an OBD1 system that doesn't require a scanner to get codes.

Here is a link showing how to retrieve codes:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/odb1-isuzu-1985-1994-cars-and-trucks-code-retrieval-procedure-and-definition

Now, the engine should be a 3.2L if it is a V6. So, please confirm the engine size for me.

Do me a favor, there are several things that can cause an engine to backfire. Take a look at this link and see if anything helps:

Also, if you feel it could be a timing issue, record it cranking and upload it for me to hear.

I'll watch for your reply.

Joe
