My son has 1998 VW Jetta. The problem is the parking brake light comes on very dim and the blower will cut out, and the wipers will not work, along the head light go off too. From what I have read about this problem it may be caused by the X contact relief relay. Does sound like the problem?

Hello. And thank you for the donation.

I would be checking/replacing the load reduction relay # 4 in fuse/relay box

Also have the alternator and battery checked !

I replace the load reduction relay as said and still had the same problem. I did noticed that when started the car up with the parking brake on the wipers and blower would work but when I took off the parking brake I would loose the power to the wipers and blower and the parking brake light comes dim. If start the car up with the brake on again the wipers and blower still work but when turn on the head lights I once agian loose the power. You had told someone else that had the same problem that this may be caused the starter switch but I was wondering if the head light relay may cause this problem?

This is a strange situation? Iv'e checked the wiring diagrams and the blowers/headlights/wipers don't have anything in common? Not even a ground point?. Are your DRL (daytime running lights) working? Try removing the DRL relay # 23 then do all the tests you did before ie. Parkbrake on blower/wipers work/not work etc.

Let me know?

I tried taken out the DRL Day light running relay number 23 and I still had the same problem. So started to play with the ignition switch and found by moving it around I would lose power to those items. This is a little bit to big of a job for me so I will have to take it to a dealer to the work. Form what checked out it will cost me about $260.00 to get it repaired. Thanks for the help I would recommend you guys anytime.
