Hello, we had issues with water getting into the switch controls of the overhead console. The vent popped open but now it wont close. The shade works so cant believe it would be the motor? We tested fuse 8 and 38 they seem to be fine. Question is, is there a way to see if it is the motor or maybe the overhead switch assembly? Any other suggestions?
Thanks !

Hello,

In the diagrams down below I have included a symptom related chart for your vehicle's moon roof. If you could go through it and determine which pinpoint test is closest to your vehicle's problem and let us know, we can get that pinpoint test out to you. I also included pinpoint test C along because it fits as best as I can gather your vehicle's issue. Please get back to us if another pinpoint test is better or how things turn out.

Thanks,
Alex

Pinpoint test C looks accurate. Do you send me something that I can click the links within the document? I cannot test the slider until the vent is closed. I feel it is the switch as there is no dimming or sound when I click the vent or slide switch. Only the shade switch works.

Well I got another switch and that was not the problem. I am not very confident on testing ohm's on the console cable. Cannot find a video on how to do this. I would think this would be the next step before replacing the motor?

With the new switch, the shade screen still functions, however the vent will still not close. Cannot test the sunroof opening until that closes. :(

An ohms test may not help you these are smart motors which have a small controller attached. Here is a guide to help and the wiring diagrams for the sun roof below so you can see how it works. Check for power at fuse #8.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

BARTHELJ, what was the end result that fixed your issue? I am having the same issue with the same model Explorer, I was also going to replace the switch controls but curious of your outcome.
