PLEASE HELP! Ok.I have a 96 Potiac Sunfire 2.2L. It started overheating about a month ago and since I have replaced the water pump, water neck (I had a bolt that siezed and couldn't remove the thermostat housing) and the thermostat. After this, it would still overheat. I thought the thermostat may be in backwards, so I tried to switch it but it only fit one way. The spring side is towards the block. I tried another thermostat thinking it may be a bad thermostat, still no go. It runs fine without the thermostat, but runs cool as expected. With the thermostat I also have no heat, but I have heat without it. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

I have tried to research this a little more. Does anyone think this could be a problem with air cavitation of the water pump? I am stumped!

It could be a bad head gasket or cracked head. Check for coolant in the oil or coolant out the exhaust.

Thanks for the help! I thought about those already and luckily it wasn't either. I got the car running normal again today. It turns out my hunch about the air was right. I let the coolant settle while the car was running and let all the air out of the block. It runs fine now. Thanks again!
