I was driving on an inerstate the other day and the car dash board went dark all of a sudden, while Im going 70 mph. Or so. The accelorator no longer worked. I could press on it but it had no pressure to it. And the car was turned off so it wouldn't accelorate. And the steering wheel was off. Or it didn't have any give to it. In other words it was as if I didn't have power steering. Or like it would feel if your car was turned off, and in neutral, and it would hardly let you turn it.

So I put my hazard lights on and pulled it off to the side of the road. Still pushing on the accelerator though becuase I was wanting it to go. And before the car probably got to 50 mph. On the side of the road. The dash came back on. The accelerator started working again. And steering wheel to. It just went back to normal in other words? So I pulled back out onto the interstate.

Well. This happened 3 more times. And I finally pulled over to call my mother. Becuase my cell phone had died. And I was only about 15 minutes from home. So I wanted to tell her where I was if it stopped between there and home, So she could come get me.

I tell you this only because. It only did it once. Between where I was and the 15 minute drive to home. Which was on the interstate as well. I live very close to the interstate. So I don't know if letting the car cool down had anything to do with why it didn't do it afterwards. I say that because I drove it to church the next morning and it did fine. And I have been driving it around town for the last week. Since this happened. And it hasn't done it again since? So it only happened when I was on the interstate and had been driving for about 25 minutes or so? And I had drove it prior to that 25 minutes on the interstate for about another 40 minutes on the interstate. But I haven't driven it for long periods since?

HELP?

Hi kimscar,

The symptoms seems to describe a faulty ignition switch.

Do this simple test and to confirm if the ignition switch is failing.

Turn ignition key very slowly to ON position and watch the dash indicator lights. They should remain steady without any flickering. Any flickering means th contacts are failing.

Slowly turn to start position and kep watching the dash lights. If the battery charge indicator flickers, ignition switch is bad.
