I have a 1997 Honda Accord with 90000 miles. The problem that I am having is that when I am driving the car it will shut off and when I go to turn it back on it will turn on and then immediately turn right back off. Then it will eventually stay on after repeated times of doing this. The only way I can keep it on is if I hold the key down in the ignition. The clock inside the car does not reset so I know it is not the battery. What could it be?

I know the 98+ Accords had a recall for the ignition switches and this sounds similar.

If the car turns off yet you can still operate the headlights and any other electrical component as if they key was out of the ignition, it's likely an ignition switch problem.

The fact that you have to hold the key down sounds like a loose connection in the ignition switch. If you jiggle the key with the car running, does it studder or turn off?

The electronics do stay on when the car turns off. When I turn the key to the farthest point without turning on the car it stays on for a little bit but then will eventually turn off. I am going to try to see if the key jingle thing turns it off or not but I am not to sure.
