2004 Ford Taurus won't go into gear

I have a 2004 Ford Taurus that won't go into gear. I can move the shifter into each gear but it won't engage the gear. Any thoughts?

Does it feel like the shifter is too easy? If yes check the shifter cable. If thats OK check fluid level on tranny dipstick.
