My truck takes longer to fire than it should. It will turn over for about 7-8 seconds before it finally fires up. I have also noticed a loss of power when going up hills. It's like I push the gas pedal down but nothing happens. I was told it was my fuel pump by a guy so I bought one but haven't installed it yet. Could it be something more simple such as a fuel filter? I have had the truck for almost 3 years and I don't think it has ever been changed. Nor the air filter.

It wouldn't hurt to replace the fuel filter. You may want to check fuel pressure before replacing the pump. It's an expensive part and a pain to replace. Also. have you checked the catylatic converter to see if it is plugging?

Let me know.

Also, here is a How To for checking fuel pressure. You will need a fuel pressure gauge, but most parts stores will lend or rent them.
