I have a 2002 Ford Ranger, 72,000 miles, with a 3.0 V6, when I try to start it I have to hold the starter for about 5 seconds before it will run, after it starts it runs great. But if it sits for a few minutes the starting problem persists.

Have you changed your fuel filter or had your fuel pressure checked. It sounds like maybe three things maybe wrong, clogged filter may make it hard to start, next the fuel pressure may be bleeding off due to a bad check valve in the pump, or the fuel pressure regulator is bad and letting gas bleed off from the fuel rail. The regulator is a little cyclinder looking thing at the end of the fuel rail and it has a vaccum line hooked to it. Pull the line off and see if gas runs out of it, if so that is your problem. If not have someone run a pressure test on it. But you can do the fuel filter and the regulator part unless you want to buy a guage to do your own pressure test. Let me know what you find. 8) NOS
