You have to scan for codes and check fuel pressure with a gauge first to see what else is wrong for starters. Autoparts rent the gauge

Since yesterday I have trouble starting my Explorer. It was starting before quite well. Just a few times it took a little longer to start. Now it was standing in the garage for a few days and does not start at all. The battery is new and good. The headlites are bright, the radio works and all other electric equipment is functioning well.
When I turn the key to start it either does nothing or sounds like an impact wrench. I pushed the car a little back and fore which in the first moment seemed to make a different. The engine turned about a quarter rotation and then the "impact wrench" sound came back.

Your help is very much appreciated.

Very well could be the starter(obvious I know) but the armature could be dragging inside or those pesky reduction gears get dry. It is not too few a miles for a ford starter to fail! Dont forget the gear itself, those silly things break and wear off too.

Thanks for the answer.

Yesterday I tried again to start. Now there is not even a click to hear. Will change the starter and see if this fixes it.

Thanks again

Check all the wires, try something, we used to have to do it sometimes years ago. When someone is trying to start the car tap the starter with a hammer. Sometimes it is enough so the brushes in the starter make contact. If it works then you will need a new starter or you could rebuild the old one, depending how mechanically inclined you are. Don't hit other wires just on the starter and not hard.
