The engine starts but won't stay running. I suspect the fuel filter may be clogged. I have located the fuel filter on the drivers side underneath the vehicle.
In order to change the filter do I need to drain the gas tank? I am afraid the fuel will pour out once I disconnect the fuel line from the filter?

You will have some fuel leakage but have a pan and the new filter ready and you won't lose much.

I wouldn't get my hopes too high on that resolving your problem though. That is a high flow, pass through filter and generally doesn't prevent a car from starting but a restricted filter will lead to a fuel pump failure.

The filter has a threaded fitting on one end, use a couple of wrenches, and quick connect fitting on the other end. The autostore sells a tool for the quick connect fitting. Make sure there is no fuel pressure on the system before taking anything loose.
