Hi, I bought a car listed above GLi6 2.0L. It had a crankshaft knock so I bought another engine and fit it, it started but it's misfiring and it does not take revs. It sounds like airflow meter but I swiped the it still does the same. No power when trying to accelerate it loses power. Please help

Hi,

Have you checked to see if the catalytic converter is plugged? If the exhaust is blocked, it can cause this.

Take a look through these two links. The first one explains symptoms of a plugged converter. The second explains how to test one.

If you remove the O2 sensor before the converter, there should be some change if this is the issue.

Hi Joe, thanks for response as I was doing further inspections I discovered that the fuel pump is quite and that reminded me of something because yesterday I tried opening a return pipe on the injector rail on the far left, but there was less fuel flow. I would have opened the main supply but my hands are too big. Now my question is, do you think the fuel pump failure can prevent motor car to rev and straggle to start? Because it only start when I tow it.

Hi:

Yes. Low fuel pressure will prevent it from starting. The injectors actually need a specific amount of pressure just to open. Have you checked fuel pressure?

Thanks you Joe, your replies and advises are spot on. My next question is, the normal fuel pump runs all the way or it must prime and stop, because my car's one was running none stop and eventually stopped that when I started realizing this non start problems and even before it would start, but misfiring a lot, but I understood because cylinder 5 was not burning and crankshaft had a knock on jernal 4. But starting was easy. I only encountered problems after fitting another engine then starting problems begins fuel pump stopped at some stage plugs when wet with petrol.

Since the issues is specific to cylinder 4, are you sure you are getting spark to that cylinder? Also, you mentioned that the fuel pump stopped at some point. Is it no longer working at all?

Okay. Since that cylinder is the issue, you have spark and fuel to it, I need you to check engine compression. Here is a link that explains in general how it is done.

Also, take a look through this link to see if anything helps.

I have to ask. Is the misfire constant or does it seem to come and go? Also, can you follow this link and see if there are any diagnostic trouble codes stored? If there are, they may help us find the solution. All you need is a short jumper wire or even a paper clip.
