Electrical problem
1999 Ford Windstar 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic? Miles

I just purchased a 1999 ford windstar van. The digital odometer does not show the miles on the van, just6 bars. The speedometer also does not work and the abs light is on.

Your's is a very common problem with these models. Leakage of brake fluid from either the master cylinder or most likely the brake pressure switch drips down onto several connectors, shorting out those items you mentioned. Ford has a replacement for the brake switch (SW-6351) for about $25.00. Fuse 10 is likely blown causing the related electrical problems.

Okay, the first step is to have the ABS computers scanned for codes and let me know the exact code numbers not code descriptions? Most diy-er scan tools cannot read those codes. Also depending on the codes you may need a professional scan tool to help diagnosis the problem.

Looks like its internal see pic I attached I see number one problem is the abs/traction control module. This is where that professional scan tool might come in handy. Checking drivers in the abs/control module.

The relay still looks to be internal even the code description says that. Also the number one fix is the abs control module. Also a professional scan tool would really help make sure it was a bad module.

Ford Windstar 1999, 212 km, 3.8 L

The ABS Light has just started to be illuminated when driving. This was preceded over a number of weeks with noises sometimes coming from the braking system similar to the ABS kicking in when under normal braking conditions. Also a whirring noise would come from the front wheel area when making a sharp left turn.

Since the ABS light has come on the speedometer is erratic with the needle jumping about. Also the transmission Overdrive light now flashes when driving over 100 kmh.

Is there a possibility that these symptoms may be connected with a faulty ABS sensor?

Thanks very much in advance for your help.

Mike

ABS could be a faulty wheel sensor, you need to scan for codes. Od light flashing is indication of trans issue, could be related to the speedo needle behaving weirdly, that could be a speed sensor, once again you need to scan for any codes.

Brakes problem
2002 Ford Windstar Automatic 56000 miles

My ABS, Brake and Tracs Off warning lights on my dash keep coming on for no apparant reason. My car runs fine, but it bothers me that they will just come on and when the engine is turned off for a while and then turned on, the lights stay off. I took it to a Ford dealership and they really couldn't figure it out, had it the entire day and said they couldn't get them to come on, but from the codes they said I needed a new ABS module for $1000. I find it weird that they are always coming on for me, but not for them. I said I would wait since I didn't have the money. Do you really think it is the ABS module and how important is it for me to do?

I started having the EXACT same problem about 2 weeks ago. My van has 47000 miles. My mechanic said the brakes etc are fine and that Ford would have difficulty finding the problem. I plan to do nothing at all about it, as it is not a safety issue.

The sensors are at the wheels you need to see what code you have to see which one or ones are bad usually the rears and the rings on the halfshafts crack the door lite is a simple fix spay a lubricant in all of the door latches and open and close them a few times you can see which door it is by turning the ing to on but not running and see what door does not chime

That light coming on is merely an indication that the self diagnostic system has identified a malfunction and shut the system down. What you have to do now is have the ABS codes read with a professional scan tool. (Not just a code reader)

I am aware of recall 09S09. The Speed control deactivation switch is leaking on this car. I removed the connector and jumped it, the cruse control works now. The ABS light and the cruse control stopped working about the same time. Could the leaking brake fluid cause the ABS fault? And what is Ford suppose to fix under the recall.

Follow this link, we have a long string on Windstar!
If your SCSD is leaking, Ford may have to replace all affected parts, but it is YOUR job to make sure the dealer of your choice spells out what will be done BEFORE you sign any estimates or repair orders, they will try to get out as checp as they can!
