This morning while driving to work, the coolant indicator light flashed on and off really fast then the car died and it wont restart. It didnt overheat and there is plenty of gas. The light didnt even remain on. Is there automatic shut off for this type of thing or any suggestions on what the problem could be

For low coolant there is no auto shut off. Doe the gas gauge power door locks keyless entry if equipped work?Anything else inop dome light etc? Also does it crank and not start or no crank no start? Is the security light on solid or flashing with the key in the run position?

If the engine is spinning over really fast you could a broken/jumped timing chain. Check for spark Actual fuel pressure if all that's good then do a compression test.
