Hi, On my 2000 town car signature series recently felt for a nano second right when overdrive kicks in feels like I ran over 1 rumble strip as you see on highways, its a quick single thump or shudder, to me it feels as it's coming from the rear of the car but not 100% sure, Also when slowing down I feel it downshift right before stopping, also recently when taking off I can hear the tranny shift into 2nd, I can't describe what I hear when it goes into 2nd but it's not a shudder, Appreciate any replies.

It could be an accumulator or shift valve hanging up or a wiring issue not allowing a shift solenoid to not engage properly or something like a seal bad in one of the clutch paks.

It's now 2021 and my 2002 Town Car has the exact same problem. 218,222 miles. Did you ever figure out what it was? I don't want to put a new transmission in my 19 year old classic old car.

Good morning,

That is called shutter. That is when the clutches slip before becoming completely engaged.

I would change the fluid and filter first. Look for any metal in the bottom of the pan.

I would also add an additive for the torque converter shutter. You can get it at any parts store. Add it to the fluid. Drive the car for about 25 miles. That is how long it takes for it to take effect.
