Hey guys, I have this sweet subaru legacy bg5 1998 model (that got passed on to me by my dad). When I got it, it wouldn't light up. The engine would cough but it wouldn't come to life. So I went ahead and bought and installed an Ej16 engine from a 2004 impreza. (It's previous one was an Ej20). It still wouldn't start. But then my mechanic told me the problem was with its ECU. So I'm planning on getting another ECU for the Ej15 engine installed. I have 2 questions: 1. Will any ECU (provided it's for a Ej15 engine) work on my car?
2. Will the engine itself (given its smaller than what is required for this model) work on this car? If yes, are there any problems I might encounter?
Feel free to share with me any precautions I should take if this goes through. Thanks guys

It's an Ej15 engine. Not ej16 as I have stated at the beginning of my question. Cheers.

You need the correct ECM. You also need to ensure that the wiring to and from the ECU is correct. Being smaller than what was originally in the car, you will have less power, but everything else should be ok.

Thanks for the reply. I read on some article that the manufacturer's number on the engine should match the one on the ecu. Where's this written on the ecu?
