I have the car listed above 2.7 with EGR. I redid the timing, water pump, and oil pump got back together and I only get fire on cylinders two and three. But if I unplug the cam sensor I get fire on all cylinders. I was told I need to take in to shop so they can plug their scanner into it to home in the cam. Does that sound right or are they just trying to get money? Let me know if that’s right or if you may know what to do to fix. Thanks

Hello,

Do you have DTC's set? Or is your Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) AKA, "check engine" light on? If it is could you please pull any code(s) that are present. I have included a link down below if you are not familiar how to do that.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

Please check that out for me and get back to us with what you find out. We can go from there.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello again,

I am not sure what that means, but we could probably help you with the proper procedure for that, but first, we need to know if the Check Engine Light is not on in your vehicle?

Thanks,
Alex

Hello again,

Can you please double check the timing for me and make sure we are not a tooth off. I came across this tip in what we use to pull our information from and it sounds like what you have going on to a "T". I have included it in the diagrams below. Please go through it, double check your timing, and get back to us with what you find out.

I got the car running we had the wrong camshaft timing gear we had the one in it from the 2004 the one is different in the 2001. Thank again for all the work you did to try to help. So if you ever have someone come to you with this issue again have them make sure they have the right camshaft timing gear.
