Mechanic says timing chain cover has a Coolent leak. Wants $700.00 to repair leak.
I was driving and noticed the temperature gauge going up passed halfway mark. I added a quart of water and gauge was normal, came home and later started
Car to drive a short distance Later I again tried starting it would not start.
Next morning (cooler) it started okay, and now again it will not start.
Thank you for helping.

Hi,

I'm not sure what engine you have. There is a 3.0L single overhead cam, 3.0L Dual overhead cam, and 3.4L.

The water pump is mounted to the cover, so the leak could be the pump itself or a gasket. By chance, did he identify where the leak was coming from?

As far as the no start, there is a chance the crankshaft position sensor is damaged due to the coolant getting on it. To confirm this, check for spark at the plugs. Here is a link that shows how it's done:

Let me know.

Hi,

Okay, then what I mentioned above is correct. Did the shop indicate what on the cover is actually leaking or is it the actual cover?
