I have been driving with a bad ignition wire for months. It started overheating so I took it for repair. Mechanic rep-laced wire, but said I might have bad head gasket because he found trace of oil in radiator and reservoir. Said do not drive when you have very hot weather.

Good evening.

Weather is not a factor if you have a bad head gasket. Just do not drive it at all.

Did he do any testing? You can do either a chemical test or a more effective test called a leak down test. That is when the insert shop air into the cylinders and watch for coolant movement in the radiator.

This test needs to be done to verify whether the gasket is good or not. Also, you need to find out why it overheated and have that diagnosed, not guessed at.
