My rear tire on my passenger side had oil leak and a smell. What cause a alarm is that there was smoke coming from the tire. I had a friend look at the tire and the I was told that I needed brake drum, brake shoes and a wheel bearing, but before knowing all of that before the tire was taken off my friend was able to move the tire in and out and he could not understand why it was doing that. When he remove the lug nuts and took off the drum he was confused to what was holding my tire in place, because he said that my tire was just there and nothing was holding it. Now I was told I may need a back braking plate, or axle seal retainer. I a a bit confused because I do not know what holds a tire in place and what a Suzuki has to hold a tire in place.

Good evening.

Can you post a picture of what you see at the wheel?

If the tire fell off, it was because it was not secured properly by the person who removed it. They need to be torqued to a certain spec so they will not fall off.

I was thinking the same thing because I drove the car just a mile and the tire fell off, and now it is on and I drove it across town it did not fall off. The thing I am trying to find out on my car is what actually holds a tire, because the street mechanics does not see where the tire is being held.

But before the tire was removed, this the first time I had a problem with this tire the mechanic was able to pull and push the tire when he was not supposed to be able to do that. What could cause the tire to be loose like that, before it was taken off?

There are support bearings that may have given the play he felt. He should have checked them.

So would that have been the cause of oil on the back inner tire?

Possibly, there is a seal for the bearing and if it is no good, then yes, it will leak oil.

Crazy thing is I am being told that I need to replace my axle shaft, because there is nothing there holding the tire and I am like that does not make no sense. What is holding the drum and shoes in place? Because they say that there is nothing in the center. First I was told I need axle seal retainer then a wheel bearing retainer now a axle shaft.

You need a new shop that knows what they are doing. None of that makes any sense at all.

So I find out from a mechanic at the shop that I need a axle shaft for my car problem. Is the part is expensive and the junkyard has the whole rear axle when I only need the shaft? They want $550.00 I cannot do. Is there any car related to the Suzuki that can be match as the same axle shaft instead of the main axle?

I just went to a site www. Car-part. Com. They have many listings for your axle around $100.00 or less.

Go to the site and you will be asked questions like VIN number and whether it has ABS or not.

Good site, I use them all the time.
