My car turns on perfectly fine and runs but when I put it in reverse it just shuts down. Then I have to start all over. What could be the problem and how do I fix it?

Hi,

Does this only happen when shifted to reverse or does if happen if you place it in drive?

Do me a favor. Pay attention to the engine speed (RPM) at idle. It should be between 600 and 700 RPMs. If it is below 600, that could be the issue and a somewhat simple fix. If you look below at pic 1, it shows the manufacturer's specs for idle speed.

Next, is the check engine light staying on while the engine is running? If it is, have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it free of charge.

Also, take a look through this link. It describes the most common causes and repairs related to a stalling issue at idle.

Let me know. Also, let me know if the link helps.

Take care,

Joe
