Hi Guys,

I have a 2004 S60R

My fuel rail position sensor has also been throwing the check engine light on, and now my car actually sputters in idle and cuts out. I'm hoping that its just the sensor, because everything else has been babied on the car. The only difference I made to it was a K&N filter about a week ago, do you think this could have aggravated it? I saw somewhere this was a recall, but when I asked Volvo they said it was not on the list, is there any way to call BS on it to get it fixed for free?

I also have a strange vibration noise and feel in the wheel when I make a right turn at the right angle and slow speed, I took it to a Volvo service place, and they said they could not find anything wrong with it, but it most definetly is there and sounds like its almost grinding something. There is no wheel rub or signs of it anywhere, and I have stock 17' R wheels.

Thank you!

Hi jgochoco,

Thank you for the donation.

I managed to get the technical recall bulletin.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
NHTSA RECALL BULLETIN
Reference Number(s): 07V226000
Related Ref Number(s): 07V226000
ARTICLE BEGINNING VEHICLE DESCRIPTION
Model(s): 2003 VOLVO S60
2003 VOLVO V70
2004 VOLVO S60
2004 VOLVO V70
Campaign No: 07V226000
Number of Affected Vehicles: 38700
Beginning Date of Manufacture: 2002 MAY
Ending Date of Manufacture: 2004 MAR

SYSTEM
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

DESCRIPTION OF DEFECT
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR LOCATED ON THE LEFT END OF THE FUEL RAIL MAY, AT TIMES, TRANSMIT INCORRECT SIGNAL REGARDING THE FUEL PRESSURE TO THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. IF THE SIGNAL IS OUTSIDE OF THE PRE-PROGRAMMED ALLOWABLE LIMITS, A DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE MAY BE SET AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON. THE SOLDERED JOINTS ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD OF THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR MAY CRACK DUE TO TEMPERATURE CHANGES AND EXCESSIVE VIBRATIONS.

CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT
MISFIRE MAY OCCUR DURING DRIVING THAT, IN TURN, WILL REDUCE THE ENGINE TORQUE AND IN THE WORST CASE SCENARIO, THE ENGINE MAY STALL WITHOUT WARNING. IN CERTAIN TRAFFIC SITUATIONS THIS COULD CAUSE AN UNSAFE SITUATION AND POSSIBLY A CRASH.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN.

For the vibrations when turning, check the power steering pump belt tension. A slipping pump belt would cause vibration due to inconsistent pressure.

Check the front brake cooling/backing plates, they might be too near the rotor and during turns might be brushing against them.
