1999 Volkswagen Jetta VW Jetta rattle

I have a 99 Jetta, that I bought used in December. The engine has been rattling for a while when it started up, but then toned down after it warmed up a little.
The Check engine light came on a couple of days ago, and then today as I was driving, there was a noticeable clunk, and the the rattle got much louder instantly. The rattle gets worse as the car speeds up.
there is also a lot of vibration coming from the engine.

Is it a transmission issue or something else? Any idea how much I can expect to pay to have it fixed?

Hi there,

Best to first get the engine oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge, we need to see how the oil pressure is, I would like to know cold idle pressure, hot idle pressure and hot 1200RPM pressure.
