1996 Volkswagen Jetta its going bad

Im thinking about buying one used and dont know if its worth 1,000 dollars if the tranny is going bad unless I know the price of having the tranny redone

Labor estimate is below for removing, overhauling and installing tranny. Parts pricing depends on what exactly is being replaced on the tranny assembly..
