Electrical problem
1986 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual Jetta miles

I have an 86, 8 valve jetta that wont start. It would crank over but had no spark. I tested the coil, battery, ignition control module, hall effect connector and the igniotion switch for the right voltage and all seem to be fine. I let it set over night and now I can't get it to even crank over or even get a click out of it. I replaced the control module and re tested everything for the proper power and it still does not crank over. Could it be the coil? Or what else can I try to test. There is power to everything. I just don't understand how it would crank over and not start and than not crank over at all when there is still good power to the components I tested.

I had an 86 Jetta. I had this problem. Turned out I had a blown head gasket. Check the oil dip stick to see if the oil looks milky or has beads of water on the stick. Also check the coolant reservoir for oil oil slick. When the water gets mixed with the oil, it makes a thick sludge that is so stiff the battery and starter do not have enough strength to rotate the motor.
