1990 Volkswagen Golf car not starting just making ticking n

This morning the car started but while on my journey the battery light stayed on, when I arrived home and turned engine off I tried to start it again all I get is a ticking noise.

Battery probably ran down due to the alternator not doing its job-get the alternator load tested.

Your battery terminals couldve losen or coroded over time and its just not getting a great connection. Try taking them off, cleaning them with a wire brush, and putting them back on farley tight. Its free and worth a shot. Then again im no expert but I have had this experience before on my old subaru
