My 73 Type I Beetle is having a problem turning back on once the engine has been turned off. It will go on with absolutely no problem even on the coldest days in NY. I drive it through the winter. The problem is that once I turn it off it will NOT turn back on until at least 1 hour depending on how long I had it running before shutting off the engine. So I have to make sure I am going to stay for a while wherever I go because I cannot turn my car back on for at least an hour. Very inconvenient! Please help!

Yes it does get cold in NY. Lived there for 60 years. For you question. Make sure the points are set correctly 0.016 Spark plug gap 0.024 to 0.028 Dwell angle 44 to 50 degrees Check the timing, 1973 and 1974 carburated models is 7 degrees before top dead center. Most likely the timing is off. Have seen it before where the car would start and run ok but when the engione warmed up it would not start.
