Googled the question: can a faulty variable valve timing solenoid on a 2014 Nissan Versa SV lead to engine failure? And google told me that the oil screen in a variable valve timing solenoid can clog and restrict oil flow to the timing chain and to the variable valve timing sprocket which will ultimately lead to engine failure, my question to 2carpros. Com is can 3 month or 3,000 mile bulk synthetic oil changes at Walmart keep the oil screen of both intake and exhaust variable valve timing solenoids from clogging up and do the intake and exhaust variable valve timing solenoids need to be replaced at a certain mileage? I am asking because the intake variable valve timing solenoid retails for over $150 dollars and the exhaust variable valve timing solenoid retails for over $300 dollars at the Advance Auto Parts discount store not to mention the auto repair shop mark-up and its labor and shop supply charges, it's a legitimate question about the intake and exhaust variable valve timing solenoids and how long they last provided I do 3 month or 3,000 mile oil change intervals with bulk synthetic oil change from Walmart and so you don't need to delete me or to leave this question unanswered since you are professional mechanics and you easily know the answers.

Regular oil changes are essential for maintaining the health of your engine and preventing issues like clogged oil screens in the variable valve timing solenoids. While synthetic oil may offer some benefits over conventional oil, the frequency of oil changes is still more important than the type of oil used. Following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule for your specific vehicle is always the best approach.

Regarding replacement of the variable valve timing solenoids, it's difficult to provide a specific mileage at which they need to be replaced since it can vary depending on a variety of factors. However, if you're experiencing issues with your engine and suspect that the solenoids may be the culprit, it's worth having a qualified mechanic diagnose the problem to determine if replacement is necessary.

The prices you mentioned for replacement solenoids seem high, so it may be worth shopping around for better prices or considering purchasing the parts online. Keep in mind that labor costs for installation will also vary depending on the mechanic and location.
