So my brother bought this 2012 Nissan Versa and didn't change the oil for 30,000 miles. He then gave the car to me when he couldn't make the payments anymore. He did not tell me about not changing the oil and had removed the sticker that tells you when to get another oil change. Now the car sputters and dies when starting or idling at a traffic light too long. Will this problem stop when I get the oil change or has damage been caused?

You should get the oil changed as soon as possible. The oil could be the cause of the problem if it affects the valve timing control solenoids.

Whether the oil change solves the problem or not, it depends to be seen but make sure the oil level is correct now and if the Malfunction Indicator Light is showing, go to an autoparts store for a scan to retrieve the troble code and let us know what the code is.

The other thing that can cause stalling during idling would be excessively low idling and cleaning the throttle should clear that up.

Whatever it is, I believe the problem should not be anything major.
