Valve module in CVT needs replacing

My new Outlander Sport SE started shuddering really badly while running errands this past Sunday. First thing Monday I called the dealership. I was told to call roadside assistance and have it towed. I was told NOT to drive it. When I got there (in the tow truck), they tried to tell me that what I was experiencing was a normal CVT transmission "learning" my driving habits. They didn't want to keep it. I insisted. Today, (Tuesday) I got the call. The "valve module that controls the transmission" is bad and I won't get my car back until Thursday. Please, can anyone explain this to me? What exactly is that? Will the transmission on my brand new car be compromised after this? Is there any reason at all I should be worried, or do I need to demand a different car? I am a single parent and this is my only car. I need to know that it's safe to drive my kids around in!

You will not get a new car from the dealer, but they will have to repair the car to your satisfaction, they are probably referring to a faulty valve body as being the cause of this problem, with modern transmissions if a TCM (transmission control module) is flashed to do a full re learn, you do have to drive the car a fair distance for the drive parameters to be re learned, but this normally results in hard shift patterns for the first few drive cycles then it settles down, I would be trusting the dealer at this point to do the correct thing and repair the car correctly, remember that you have the last say and you should voice your concerns with the dealer and the manufacture's customer assist section if you are not 100% happy with the out come.
