Autotramission stuck at 3gear

While driving, there was a sudden***** n gear drop to 3rd gear. Switch to manual mode but cant increase or decrease gear. Off the engine for couple of minutes back to normal. Happen twice. What most probably the cause. This is Mitshibushi Airtrek Turbo, 2.0.
