I was leaving to go to work this morning and out of nowhere went to put my truck in reverse and nothing, I had to put in park and reverse 3 times and it finally went in. No strange noises or anything it done fine the rest of the time today until towards the end I had to shift from park to reverse twice all drive gears work great.

This could be a shift solenoid, or you have a gear range sensor going out, can I ask when you put the truck in reverse does the backup lights go on? If not, I would start by checking the fuses which. This guide can help you, be sure to have the key on when checking:

If the fuses are okay and the reverse lights are not going on I would replace the gear range sensor, here is how in the images below. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what you find.

They don’t come on, but I think they just don’t work at all. It’s only not engaging reverse sometimes.

If when the transmission goes into reverse if the reverse light work when this happens then you have a bad gear range sensor. Please note the operation to confirm.
