I want to change my transmission filter. How do I get to the screws that are covered by the crossbar that holds up the transmission and transmission mount? Is there a special tool I could get to get into that area?

Thank you for your help.

If you cannot get to them the solution is to simply unbolt and move the cross member. If you have the factory skid plate you will want to remove it first. Then drain the transmission place a jack under the transfer case and gently bring it up to just touch the case. Now remove the bolts in the cross member and the transmission mount and jack up the T-case just enough to move the cross member out of the way. Then you can remove the pan, clean it out and replace the filter. Replace the pan, install the drain plug reinstall the cross member and fill the transmission through the fluid check port (upper bolt in pan). Use Dexron III fluid. Fill until fluid drips back out of the port. Start the engine, run the trans through the gears with your foot on the brake. Then check the fluid level again with the vehicle level.
