The vehicle listed above is a Limited model. While on the way home from a trip to Pigeon Forge, with cruise control engaged, after cresting a hill and starting down, seemed like it shifted gears one time, RPMs raised by about 300 RPMs, then transmission disengaged, and engine revved up to over 3,500 RPMs. Quickly turned cruise off, RPMs came down and you could feel it jump back into gear. No issues with cruise off when going downhill, only when cruise is on. A couple of times with cruise on, with a smaller hill transmission would disengage briefly and jump back into gear. No Codes.

Hello,

Does this happen all the time when climbing hill with the cruise or just occasionally?
Does it happen any other time besides the hill climb?

I know there are some software updates that need to be done for the transmission to function properly in cruise (under certain scenarios).
Call your local jeep dealer and see if they have a remedy available, this still should be under the powertrain warranty.

Let me know of any questions.
Thank you.

With cruise off, going down hills, engine rpms go up with engine braking, but transmission stays engaged, no problems. With cruise on, works as intended until you go down a hill and speed goes above cruise setting, on occasions where the hill was small and speed goes a little above, transmission would disengage briefly and jump right back into gear with a noticeable bump. It did this every time and severity depended on the grade of the hill. Will be making an appointment today. Thank you!

Rather long but here it is: So, I made an appointment with our local Jeep dealer. Explained what was happening and after being told it would be hours because of the complexity of the issue I decided to take an Uber home and wait. When I was almost home, I was called and told the mechanic had test drove it and what hill he took it down and had reported to the service guy that he felt what I described but that it was a normal characteristic of this particular transmission, to which the service guy talked to me like I was an imbecile explaining engine braking. I told him I was fully aware what engine braking was and I wasn't feeling that and that's why I was there, by the way the hill was small and after picking it up and going down the same hill it just downshifted 1 gear and RPMs only went up 300. So, seeing I wasn't going to get the outcome I had hoped I turned around and went back to pick it up ($46.00 Uber ride because I was told "Hours"). Upon arriving and going in to retrieve it I was told the mechanic was "Updating Software" and it would be ready shortly. So, on the way home and thinking about somewhere to test (Including the Mechanics hill) I was able to find one big enough to reproduce my experience. This time the engine RPMs raced up to 3,500 RPMs but instead of "Free Wheeling" the transmission downshifted and there was noticeable "Engine Braking". Although it was still an uneasy feeling hearing the engine rev up like that, there was a bit of a lag before the transmission downshifted, but it did engage and not kick out. Hope this helps. Thanks again

This issue with Jeep has been going on for some time. A family member with a 2018 Jeep Cherokee experienced very similar issues and the Jeep service department had a very similar response. Then the vehicle was taken to another Jeep dealership, and they were able to get it fixed with software update.
I completely agree with the arrogance of some of these dealerships, which is incredibly frustrating.
One thing these places care about is their CSI (customer satisfaction index) score, so when you do get the survey let them know about your experience.

Let me know if the update fixed the issue.
