My husband just changed the oil filter to rule out why my SUV was having trouble pulling a hill. Now it is leaking transmission fluid. Could he have damaged something? Any correlation between the two?

Good afternoon,

Do you have any idea of the location of the leak?

Yes, it could. But you need to check the fluid to be sure you have sufficient fluid for the transmission to work correctly.

Is the check engine light on? If it is do you know the codes?

Thank you. Yes the check engine light is on but it has always gone off and on before. We do not know where leak is yet. Any suggestions on where to start looking? It leaked a lot of fluid very quickly. Only drove it about 200 feet?

Okay, first, go to a parts store and have the code checked. If you cannot drive it, then get a cheap one from a parts store and read the code. That will give us a direction of the failure.

If it is leaking that quickly, look under the hood at the lines that go the radiator. The cooler lines have a lot of pressure.
