Everything works great, until she gets hot. The fluid has been burnt before and I was told it can't be changed, transmission needs to be replaced. Single mom, no support outside self so I really can't afford that. Been using Lucas brand transmission fluid cause I know she's old and tired. I really love her and hate to give her up, any advice? Side note: I am a mechanic's daughter so I have tons of tools and am pretty fluent in mechanics.

Good morning.

You were given wrong information.

You can change the fluid and filter. The pan on the bottom needs to be dropped and the filter inside changed. If the fluid is burned, I would do this service and then in about 150-200 miles, do it again to get the rest of the bad fluid out of the converter. Hopefully, it is just a clogged filter.

Beyond that, it may need another transmission.
