Transmission will not shift?

My 2000 nissan with 144259 miles does not shift gear all them time and the top speed that it will go to is only 40 miles per hour. Any help will be appreciated thanks

Hi there,

There is not very much that you can do on a auto yourself. Start with checking the level& condition of the transmission fluid. Have a scan done to see if there are any transmission fault codes set. Do this first.
