I've reinstalled my trannsmission after replacing an oil pump. I've made sure that the torque convertor was seated properly and torqued the 4 bolts to the fly wheel. I drained the fluid while I had it out of the truck and after 6 quarts
(should hold 11) it is overflowing from the vent valve, but the problem is that it wont shift at all. Linkage is functioning properly but no gears are working. Im bout to drain some fluid and get the level right but I dont know how to proceed. Any ideas?

Drop the pan is easiest way or disconnect cooler line from radiator and start up for a couple of seconds. This guide and video (similar car) should help us remove the transmission and fix the problem if the fluid level does not help

Normally to much fluid would blow out the vent it's probably bad with internal damage. Have a trans guy look at it.

Thanks man. Will do. One more thing the cooler and the lines are empty even though the transmission is overflowing from the vent valve, and the truck is running while I was adding. Is there a reason I would have to do to prime the system. Does that mean that its not pumping and if so doesnt that mean the trans mission isnt connected?

It means there may be a blocked port at torque converter or pump may be bad. The cooler lines come right from the torque converter.
