Transmission when you start the car it goes in drive good goes in reverse good sets and runs for a little but get back in it and put it in drive nothing; put it in reverse nothing. Could you tell me what's up with this car? Thank you

Hi,

There are several different things that can cause this. For example, it could be related to the transmission line pressure, a faulty transmission pressure solenoid, an electrical connection, a problem with the powertrain control module, and the list goes on.

Here is what I feel should be done. Because it will become a guessing game without diagnostic trouble codes, I recommend having the vehicles can-bus scanned for codes.

CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, the different modules/computers are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will retrieve codes from any of the modules storing information.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

Let me know if this is something you can do or have done. Also, let me know if you have other questions, and let me know if the gear indicator functions when the transmission won't work.

Take care,

joe
