Backs up when cold, but when hot will not back up. If I let it cool for thirty minutes it will back up.

Is the fluid clean and full? It almost sounds like the filter is picking up dirt and causing pressure loss to the system. Then, when you let it sit, the dirt drops back down and allows more pressure to the unit thus allowing it to go into reverse until it picks up dirt again.

Wow, I been doing mechanics for nearly forty years and that sounds like it could very well be the problem. It makes sense to me.
The transmission was rebuilt several thousand miles back. All forward gears work fine. But why does low pressure cause reverse not to work when forward gears work fine? I never was a good auto transmissions.
Person. Now I did add a bottle of transmission treatment and this seemed to help the problem.
Thanks for your help. I will change the filter and fluid and add more transmission treatment.
