1996 Pontiac Sunfire 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Manual 239000 miles

My car is a 4 cylinder but it seems that only 2 of them are working, now my starter just went and I can't even bomb start to or jump it. Before al of this happend somtime when I started my car it could smell like burnt plastic almost, this didn't happen all of the time, just every once and a while.

The burning smell could have been the starter getting ready to go.
Get the starter replaced and then check for spark at each plug wire at the spark plug end. You probably have a bad coil pack. Two coil packs on that engine, each one fires 2 cylinders.
They are about 25.00 each. One bad one would make it run on 2.
