94 Toyota Tercel 4 cyl 158,000mi. Car has leaked oil- has a bad main rear oil seal. Adding a qt of oil every 160 miles until I can fix the seal, but, While driving it made a loud BANG and died. Blew oil on hood. Wouldn't start for 20 minutes. Now starts but has a loud knocking noise in engine that gets louder and faster with slight pedal acceleration. Too much oil, not enough? Blown cylinder?

Hi there,

Sorry to say but this sounds rather terminal. Where did the oil come from? Did it blow off the filler cap? The knocking noise after a big bang could easily be a broken piston, I'm sorry to say but I feel that this engine is stuffed.

Mark (mhpautos)

P.S. Stuffed, Australian for no longer usable.

Ok, that's what I suspected- thanks for your help. It did look like it blew from the filler cap also.
