1994 Toyota Tercel Gear Shift Locks Up

Gear shift locks up and unable to change gears.
Erratic, but getting worse. When attempting to change from one gear to another, the gear shift locks up and will not go into another gear.
I shut off the car and the gear shift works OK.
Start the car, and the problem continues.

Hi Phyllis,

The clutch is either too low or it is failing causing the clutch disc not to be disengaged when the clutch pedal is depressed.

If the pedal feels low, it could be the fault of the clutch hydraulic system

You would need to get it checked and repaired in order to prevent being stranded.
