First of all. This is the sweetest car I have ever owned.

I have an 01 IS300 as well and I enjoy this more than the IS300.

My girlfriend hates it.I dont know if it is the massive oil leak. Or the blue smoke that spews out the back when I drive.

anyway. This car is a 4 speed. With 189000 miles. I have put the last 20000 on there in the last 4 months.

It drove perfectly when I first got it but now it bucks like a bronco when its in low rpms.

Once I get it into higher rpms it is fine. I didnt really care about this until I got a new job where I drive around town more than on the highway now.

I replaced the plugs and that didnt do anything, although one of them the head was har to make out what it was. The wires are after market which leads me to believe the distributer cap is an aftermarket one. One of the wires however became disconnected from the part that actually attaches to the plug. I had to get it somewhere so I drove it on 3 cyclinders. Anyway I jimmy rigged it so that it will still fire the plug. So its way better than the 3 cyclinders but still bucking at low rpms. Also the plugs were very oil around the threads. It does have a good size oil leak. Not sure of where it is from.

There is the story of what I know. Any one able to help? I check the FAQ and car repair symptoms but the car surging sections wasnt too specific.

I also should add, when it is doing it gay thing in low rpms the car gives out. Like nearl bogs down. Then all of a sudden. Bam! . Runs like a bat out of hell.

thanks in advance.

Compression check should be done prior to tuning. Parts: Spark plugs and sparkplug wires, distributor cap, rotor, airfilter, fuel filter, PCV valve, Valve and Ignition timing check. Scan for codes. Dunno how much for labor/parts they come in different rates/prices.

Start calling around for quotes make sure its a reputable shop you're dealing with. Not one of those fly by nite stuff.

Good Luck!

Ok I replaced, air filter, fuel filter, oil change and oil filter, plugs and distributer cap. Still has the same problem. Feels like the clutch and transmission are in good shape.

Should I add that this car has a oil leak and spits oil out the tail pipe?

Let me know what you think.

The oil is fouling up the plug creating the problem running on 3cyl.

Oil out of the tail-means rings, valve guides and seals-for the blue smoke-meaning engine repair.

Dunno how much-you need to have it tested to confirm where its leaking and then go from there.
