Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Toyota Tacoma 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Truck is a 6 cyl 4 wheel drive automatic, it recently went out on me while driving. I was told it was the starter problem, so I went a bought a new one to replace but still won't start up just makes a clicking noise when cranking. Then I was told it could be the ignition module, so I went and got one and still nothing and then ended up replacing the ECU and. Nothing still. I am all out of ideas, could it still be that I bought a bad starter?

Hi chinnie,

Thank you for the donation.

If the engine went out while driving, it should not be a starter problem.

Either the engine is seized or the battery has run down. Did you try jump starting?
Manually turn the engine and check if it turns.
Check the engine oil.

I tried jump starting the truck when it died on me but all it did was make a clicking noise still on crank. My dad and I thought it was timing belt so we changed that out and yes engine was able to turn manually but I've not checked out the engine oil. I will do that ASAP, today was pouring rain so couldn't do much outside. Thanks for quick reply I will keep you updated.

Check the battery condition.

There is a possibility the battery is drained due to a fault in the charging system. If battery is weak, recharge it first.

When using jumper, if the capacity of the cable is not sufficient and original battery is too weak, you would not be able to crank. Use the donor vehicle to charge the battery for a few minutes before trying to jump start.

Unfortunately, this post is over 10 years old so it is unlikely that they will respond.

However, if you have the same vehicle and issue then they left off at checking the battery.

So here is a guide that will help with load checking the battery:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-battery-load-test

Let's start with that and go from there. Also, can you provide the detail to your issue that you are seeing just so we can be sure it is the same exact thing?

Thanks
