Transmission problem
1994 Toyota Pickup 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I have been rebuilding the motor on my pickup for the last couple of months and when I got ready to drive it - it ran fine. I drove it to neighbors etc and then went to take it to town and about 15 miles from home my transmission was gone and I couldn't pull a hill. I had no signs of slippage previous to this. I am changing the filter and fluid in the transmission but is there anything else obvious I should look at?

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation

you did do up the torque converter bolts tight? Failing that I would get the line pressures tested as the pump may have failed. Start here.

Thanks for the info. Is checking the pressure on those lines something I can do? The trucks in the driveway and I can't find anyone local to come look at it - but I think I am more than capable if I know what to do - since I rebuilt the engine. Anymore info you can provide?

Hi there,

A very basis test will be to remove the cooler lines and check flow there into a container this will show if there is any pump action, otherwise you will need some special test equipment to go further.
