Engine Cooling problem
1990 Toyota Pickup 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I have a 1990 Toyota Pkup with a 22re and I would like to know if there is a way to check the fan motor with it still installed in the truck to see if the clutch is working properly. My pickups temp raises when the air conditioner is on. I have already had the water pump, temp gage replaced and the radiator flushed.

With the engine off, spin the fan by hand. Notice how easy it is to turn.

Now get the engine up to temp and turn it off.
With the engine off, spin the fan by hand. It should be much harder to turn.

Also check that there isn't any debris in the fins of the radiator or the AC condenser.

IT WAS THE RADIATOR ON MINE. MY TOYOTA PICKUP OVERHEATED, CRACKED THE HEAD GASKET, REPLACED IT ALONG WITH THE TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP, STILL GOT HOT, REPLACED THE CAP, THEN THE FAN CLUTCH, STILL GOT HOT. I HAD ALREADY FLUSHED THE RADIATOR WHEN REPLACED HEAD GASKET. THIS TIME I TOOK IT OUT, IT WAS METAL, SO I TOOK IT TO A PLACE WHERE THEY OPENED IT UP AND CLEANED EVERY PART OF IT AND I PAYED $15.00. NEW WOULD'VE BEEN $150.00. THANK GOD IT WAS METAL, CAUSE THEY COULD WELD IT BACK TOGETHER WHEN FINISHED. HOPE THIS ADVICE HELPS. IF YOUR RADIATOR IS ALSO A 1990, THEN NO MATTER HOW GOOD IT LOOKS, THE INSIDE WILL LOOK DIFFERENT. ANOTHER WAY TO CHECK THIS IS TO FLUSH IT, THEN ADD WATER TILL IT ALMOST FILLS AND LOOK TO SEE HOW FAST OR IN MY CASE HOW SLOW THE WATER GOES DOWN.
