I have a '98 tacoma with 4 cylinder engine. For the past 2 winters the engine "cuts-out" mostly at cruising speeds. I've had it cheked out twice at a Toyota garage. There were no codes each time. I replaced plugs and wires over a year ago. The engines idles fine and I don't notice the problem while excelerating.

For all of you wizards out there that experience the same problem you might want to check out the throttle position sensor. It only took 2 winters and a lot of diagnosis to figure it out.

The TPS is a good choice however there is another problem with your make and model vehicle. The injectors have a micro-micro fine screen built in the top of the injector. They clog very easy especially with water from condensation in cold weather.

First-- Use a good grade of injector cleaner in the tank for two tanks, Change the fuel filter ( real bear, you need a small 3' mechanic with 4' arms)

Second-- If that doesn't help get a professional injector clean.

Third. If all else fails, remove the injectors (easier than the fuel filter) Remove the micro screen by using a 10-24 tap, tap into the brass top ring and pull out the screen with the brass ring.

Good luck, the injectors are about $175 each.
