Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I replaced the drive belt in accordance a belt routing diagram, the tension seems fine but the belt rides off the tensioner pulley

Remove belt and check pulleys for loosness, it is possible that one pulley is loose.

But this is generally an alignment/routing problem. Also make sure the pulleys are clean, free of contaminants. Clean the pulleys with brake clean and let dry thrououghly.

The other possibility is the belt is bad, if you have to get a Toyota belt, some aftermarket belts are junk.
