1986 Toyota Corolla Cant downshift from 3rd to 2nd

This problem has just recently started and im at a loss here. When I'm about to turn, I shift from 3rd to 2nd and it just wont go into second. Im at the right speed and everything, it just wont go into 2nd gear.

Do I need a new transmission? If so, would it be cheaper to replace/rebuild?

Hi there,

You may have a problem with the scyncro hub, dose it go into gear with the engine stopped? I would also be checking the cable adjustments as well.

Yes it will go into gear when the car is stopped or at a very low speed. But any other time it just wont go into 2nd gear at all.

Hi there,

It is sounding like a syncro or shift hub problem, just check the oil as a precaution, but I feel the box will have to be removed.
